"Shannon is without a doubt the most gifted, compassionate, and experienced teacher you'll find for your child's reading/writing needs. The teaching and care she has invested into my son, who has dyslexia, has been life-changing by providing him with literacy skills that he wasn't able to learn or understand at school. Prior to working with Shannon, my son found reading/writing to be insurmountable for years, and hated it. With her teaching he is so excited to learn, his abilities have improved dramatically, and he has confidence! We are forever indebted to and grateful for Shannon and OnTrack Reading, as her love of teaching literacy has set him up for a successful and fulfilling life, for the rest of his life. ."

"Our son was diagnosed with dyslexia in Grade 2, and began working with Shannon in Grade 3. He responded immediately to Shannon's skilled approach, and over the course of their work, has blossomed into a confident writer and an avid reader. We will forever be grateful to Shannon for her impact on our child's life."

"Yesterday was my son's birthday. I always write in a book for him instead of a card, so it was four pages of a mix of printing and cursive which is hard for him to read ... and OMG! What a difference! The confidence, speed and fluency is amazing!! He read the whole thing willingly, and you could see a small smile while he was reading it, as he knew he was rocking it!"

What is Dyslexia?

“Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurobiological in origin. It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities. These difficulties typically result from a deficit in the phonological component of language that is often unexpected in relation to other cognitive abilities and the provision of effective classroom instruction. Secondary consequences may include problems in reading comprehension and reduced reading experience that can impede growth of vocabulary and background knowledge.”

Adopted by the IDA Board of Directors, Nov. 12, 2002. Many state education codes, including New Jersey, Ohio and Utah, have adopted this definition
