Educational Therapist, Certified in Level B Standardized Assessment

Shannon is an experienced Reading Specialist and Dyslexia Practitioner with a demonstrated history of working in the education industry. She is an Alberta Certificated K-12 teacher and has been an educator in various roles for over 18 years. Shannon is an Educational Therapist and a member of the Northern Alberta Reading Specialists’ Council (NARSC). She has a B.Ed. in Special Education and an M.Ed. in Language and Literacy. She has also completed graduate level coursework in dyslexia intervention, including a 90-hour Dyslexia Practitioner course - Wilson® Dyslexia Practitioner (W.D.P.). As well, she holds Level B Certification in Standardized Assessment. She has broad experience supporting students with diverse needs in and out of the classroom setting.

Shannon is skilled in differentiated instruction, curriculum development, educational technology, elementary education, and special education. She has held various teaching roles including teaching at the elementary and high school levels, both in the regular and special education settings. She has worked with classroom teachers to assist with programming for English Language Learners and has assisted teachers with creating curriculum materials and resources for all levels that focus on the essential skills. She has also worked in the post-secondary sector as a Student Support Specialist. As well, Shannon has worked with various educational organizations, including NorQuest College and the Alberta Distance Learning Centre (ADLC) to create online educational content and curriculum. Shannon is passionate about education and has a strong background in language and literacy and working with struggling readers. She is particularly interested in the research regarding dyslexia and the best ways to remediate this language-based reading disability.
