FAQ
What is included in the program?

Our program is based on twice-weekly sessions offered from September to June (this can be tailored to meet your specific needs). We also offer specialized summer intensive instruction. Our program includes specialized reading intervention provided by reading specialists and educational therapists, all assessments (including pre- and post-assessments), all reports, parent conferences, and all materials. No hidden fees and no extra costs. Please contact us for our rates.

When are classes held?

Classes are held twice weekly either on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please contact the Centre for available times.

How do I know if my child has a language-based reading disability?

If your child has been assessed in school or through a private psychologist for a psycho-educational evaluation, the results will indicate the diagnosis of a language-based reading disability, or Dyslexia. If you are unsure, please contact OnTrack Reading Centre to discuss assessment options.

For which subjects does OnTrack Reading Centre provide services?

We provide reading intervention for students who are significantly below reading norms and those with a diagnosed language-based reading disability. The program is designed to support students from grades 2 to adult.

How do I know if your program works?

“A study conducted at the Center for Cognitive Brain Imaging at Carnegie Mellon University used fMRI to gauge the impact of intensive remedial instruction on the brain. The study found that, with remedial instruction, the brain of a poor reader can be permanently rewired to function similarly to the brain of a good reader.” (Meyler, Keller, Cherkassky, Gabrieli, J. D. E., & Just, 2008).

Are you hiring?

OnTrack Reading Centre is always looking for qualified Reading Specialists. You must have a Masters Degree in reading intervention and literacy and be formally trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading. Additional qualifications may be required. Please contact us for more information.

Will you come to my home?

No. All lessons are conducted in our St. Albert location where we house our intervention materials and we can ensure a focused environment. Alternatively, we also offer virtual sessions.

Are lessons individual or group?

We offer both one-on-one or small group instruction of no more than three students per group. Research has shown that in order for reading intervention to be effective, small group, individualized instruction is imperative.

What makes your company different from other tutoring companies?

We are so glad you asked! First, we are not a tutoring company. OnTrack Reading Centre provides reading intervention services for students who struggle with reading or have a diagnosed language-based learning disability, such as Dyslexia. Our Centre Director is an Educational Therapist and Reading Specialist with over 20 years of teaching and reading intervention experience. She holds a Masters Degree in Education with a focus on Language and Literacy. She also holds a Bachelor of Education Degree with a focus on Special Education. Additionally, she has completed a 90-hour Dyslexia Practitioner Course and is well versed in a variety of reading intervention and structured literacy methods. All lessons at OnTrack Reading Centre are multisensory, hands-on and engaging. Students will NOT be learning through memorization, worksheets, or other methods that are proven ineffective in teaching and learning. Our methods are evidence-based and backed by research.

How do I know if my child qualifies for services?

The Director at OnTrack Reading is highly trained and qualified to provide a variety of educational assessments. If your child does not have a formal diagnosis, we are able to assess your child to determine if he or she qualifies for our services.

How will I know if my child is progressing?

At OnTrack Reading Centre, we are highly trained educational professionals who will provide regular updates with parents/guardians. If you have additional questions or concerns about your child's progress, please contact the Centre, and we will be happy to discuss your concerns at any time.
